Als Wolfgang Palm in den Endsiebzigern die Wavetable-Synthese entwickelte, hätte er auch in seinen kühnsten Träumen nicht erwartet, daß diese für ,,damalige Zeiten" geradezu revolutionäre Technologie nahezu zwanzig Jahre nach ihrer grundsätzlichen Ersinnung im MicroWave und auch im großen Bruder dem Wave, immer noch das Soundempfinden der aktuellen Musikergeneration befriedigt. Und, mehr als das, die Waldorf Klangmaschinen genießen geradezu Kultstatus, wie man es zuletzt vielleicht noch bei dem ,,MiniMoog" erleben durfte.

runteranfang Der Microwave hat in seinem dunkelblauen Designgehäuse, mit seiner roten Nase und seinem eigentlich viel zu kleinen Display so manche Sample-Rom-Player-Generation überlebt. Und das, obwohl er bei seinem Erscheinen 1989 von vielen Kritikern klanglich zwar als ungeheuer interessant, von seinen Features wie beispielsweise der relativ geringen Stimmenzahl (,,nur" 8) und der nicht vorhandenen Effekteinheit, erst einmal als nicht besonders konkurrenzfähig eingestuft wurde...

runteranfang Warum so viele Musiker (und dazu zählt die Creme de la Creme des internationalen Musikbusiness) sich dennoch für den MicroWave entscheidet, läßt sich allerdings ganz einfach erklären: Der MicroWave klingt sehr eigen und er klingt sehr sehr gut. Dafür sorgt die bereits erwähnte ,,Wavetable-Technologie". Dazu gehören echte Analogfilter mit 24dB Flankensteilheit und eine mehr als ausgiebige Modulationsmatrix. Waren es zu Anfang der 80er glockige, metallische und fremdartige Digitalklänge, so sind es in den 90ern fette, kraftvolle Analogkläne mit Realtime- Filtereinsatz und extreme Sweep-Sounds, die den Zeitgeist treffen. All diese Klänge lassen sich mit dem MicroWave in unübertrefflicher Qualität erzeugen. Die Klänge im MicroWave werden von der untersten Stufe seiner Klangerzeugung an synthetisiert.

runteranfangProspektbild Dabei entspricht der grundsätzliche Klangaufbau dem eines klassischen Analogsynthesizers. Das heißt: der MicroWave ist sehr einfach zu programmieren. Die Auslegung der klangbildenden Module ist von einer solch herausragenden Güte, daß ein Klang auch ohne Beimischung externer Effekte und Equalisierung die Ideen seines Schöpfers überzeugend wiedergibt. Und weil das alles so ist, ist der MicroWave ein Musikinstrument, mit dem sich seine Besitzer immer wieder gerne intensiver beschäftigen. Darin liegt das große Geheimnis seines Erfolges.

runteranfang Nach so vielen Jahren Wavetable-Geschichte ist es klar, daß für den Microwave eine Unmenge interessantester Sounds in Form von RAM- oder ROM-Karten oder Disketten vorhanden sind. Daneben wurde der Microwave über die Jahre hinweg via System-Updates softwaremäßig auf aktuellstem Stand gehalten. Wenn Sie also heute einen Microwave kaufen, haben Sie ein Gerät, das dem aktuellsten technologischen Standard mehr als entspricht.
