From: JQUN33A@prodigy.com (L Sobocinski) Newsgroups: alt.religion.scientology Subject: The L.Ron Hubbard I knew Date: 23 Feb 1995 19:51:18 GMT I am in my third decade as a Scientologist. I have recently examined this Bulletin Board due to having read about it in news magazines. Having known Ron personally, I cannot let some of the ugly statements about him go unchallenged. I knew LRH as a generous, courteous man. I've seem him angry....but I have never met his equal when it comes to earnestly doing his best to help those around him. A good friend of mine once dated a certain member of the Hubbard family. Out of courtesy to them and to Ron's memory, I will not be more specific. This friend of mine betrayed the member of Ron's family in a rather banal and gross fashion. The result was not angry hounding of my friend, but rather the most rational application of ethics one could imagine. I am sorry to omit details, but this network is so public that I must be rather vague to avoid playing into the hands of the maniacs that prowl these articles. Ron applied ethics to my friend, and rather amusingly CHARGED him for it. This took a long time to pay off on Sea Org pay!! But needless to say, the incident was not repeated. I remember from my Washington DC days, being told by Colonel Powell (a Kentucky colonel, that is) of his own recollections of Ron. Colonel Powell ran a rooming house near the DC org, and also rented rooms to Ron and his family. Colonel Powell described Ron as "one fine gentleman". Colonel Powell was no dummy. I must also say that you can best judge someone by their fruits. Ron was very courageous to tackle the task he did, and I know it hurt him whenever he had to admit that his developing tech may have caused inadvertent injury. Goes with the territory my friend! I have seen so many people benefited by his labors......good Lord! I marvel at his generosity. When latecomers and wannabees attribute base motives to LRH, I can only shake my head and resolve to persevere. Ron was a MAN, not some skulking coward. I am proud to have known him, and I honor his name. I am unafraid of perusing this Bulletin Board, as I have attained the top of the Grade Chart. I request a favor of those who post confidential material.......this material is not necessarily dangerous to people far below on the Grade Chart, but can be hazardous to people ALMOST at that Level. I know that some of you mock this material, but in doing so I feel you also mock some of the principles this country (USA) was founded on. Please also note, that the historicity of these materials is quite unimportant.......the gain to the being is first and foremost. I would counsel reason, and good manners to anyone using this forum. I was a teacher ("supervisor") with Scientology(tm) for over ten years. I knew Larry. He's just a well-intentioned foot soldier. Is Scientology(tm) a religion? No. It does not worship anything. There is no God in its pantheon. No gods. No saints. No nothing. Oh -- it is a "study of the soul". Let's see if I remember ... "in the great tr adition of" something or other. Big deal. Everyone knows it was changed into a religion for financial reasons in 1954. (Or as LRH would number things, "A.D. 4 " -- meaning 'After Dianetics, year 4'!) The real purpose is to funnel money up to the top. All the workers make a minis cule amount of money per week (and they work like dogs) -- in my time we routin ely made between $5 to $25 per week. Meanwhile the "org" is raking in maybe $10 ,000 a week. It's fun to read through alt.religion.scientology because (and some non-members have noticed this) ALL the Scientologist's responses are canned. I mean every single one. You non-members wouldn't know it, but most of the responses come fr om LRH himself. He literally told the faithful what to say for every conceivabl e attack. "Dead Agent" is the methodology. It works like this: From your accuser's words, take some thing said and "Dead Agent" it. That means prove it to be false and probably illegal or dangerous. There is a scripted list of responses that Scien tologists must give for certain situations. But if the situation is unexpected, they hypnotically go into attack mode and subconsciously refuse to inspect the validity of your statements. Traditionally, Scientology(tm) has worked best in an environment of its own cho osing. That way all aspects of the victims behavior can be controlled. The free enterprise system is very rough on them. It would be surprising to see them en masse on the net. Possibly by now a "disconnect" order has been issued to them ordering them not to read a.r.s. And they must comply! Otherwise, the thought police get them (you think I'm kidding!). The problem of cancellations is typical of Scientology(tm). I wouldn't worry ab out it. The sheer size of the net compared to the very small amount of time the y have to enjoy this weighs against them. The staff and "sea org" members (reme mber -- they signed a billion year employment contract) have very little free t ime (like minutes per week). The people you see claiming to be Scientologists i n these listings are non-staff; they have real jobs! They have contact with the outside world. They are "dilletantes". Use that word when talking to them -- i t really pushes their buttons. Essentially, to them, it means they don't have t he balls sign up with a COS staff (or sea org) and work for peanuts. On the other hand, the COS management is very prone to litigation. Their purpos e is to stamp out every negative criticism of Scientology(tm) "ruthlessly". I would recommend "L Ron Hubbard, Messiah or Madman" by B. Corydon, Barricade B ooks, 1530 Palisade, Fort Lee, New Jersey, 07024. Also there was a fascinating interview by Ted Koppel of the leader of COS that aired about 1990 or so. It ra n long (an hour or so) and it was so full of hypnotic statements that I laughed for days. Now it wouldn't be fair to Sobo if I didn't list out all the points upon which you can "dead agent" me. Let's see: what indicates? former member? hypnotism? corydon? out-ethics? ... You dilletante you! Why don't you join staff and qui t wasting your time reading this squirrelly nonsense! The one thing you worship is the false idea that you can be VICTIMIZED, I mean, you sit there at your slimy keyboards and postulate, postulate, postulate that YOU ARE A VICTIM. You have no idea how ridiculous you appear. America On-Line offers SUCH a better opportunity to view an entire thread, I recommend it to anybody following this BB. Something ODD happens whenever the entire German nation is united. All you had to do was splice West Germany together with East Germany and VIOLA, the barbecue is on!! Making fun of the suffering of Jews? Not hardly.......My wife's family is (was) Ukrainian Jews. She doesn't have a single relative left in Europe. All you Anti-Scientology "saints" better wake up and smell the Sarin you're spreading. If Scientology is as bad as you say, let it die a natural death!! The fact that you feal it needs your personal assistance toward the gas-chambers indicates your Nazi heritage. Scientology will win, the technology works, you can't fool the people who have been helped by it, I loof forward to (about) two decades hence when your letters are enshrined as a monument to religious bigotry. Ta-Ta, for now, Larry Sobocinski OT8
