This is very similar to what happened in my wife's family 4 years ago this past January. I was out of town on a day-trip and phoned home to check in. That's when my wife asked me what I knew about something called 'Scientology'. At that point, what immediately jumped into my mind was a segment on ABC News (20/20, I think) that I'd watched a couple of months before. She then proceeded to tell me that her sister (whom she was very close to) had joined this Church with her husband. I promised to find out what I could. My employer at the time maintained the article database for the Canadian Press Wire Service, so I stopped into the Toronto office to do a search. What I wound up with was a pile of paper 6" high and about 175 articles that CP had carried over five years. I read them through and got very scared. My sister-in-law's husbadn is a veterinarian. That's how the Scieno's got to him. Through a front company that provides management consulting services based on Hubbard tech. Naturally, they're _extremely_ expensive. The big problem is that their clients are also fiercely loyal. The family (a large, devoutly Catholic one) banded together to "do something about this". This strategy started out as individual family members calling up Sis and trying to talk some sense into her. These calls, more often then not, degenerated into very acrimonious shouting matches. Around Easter, it escalated into unannounced group visits to Sis. I was invited, as a well-informed in-law, to visit number two. The group consisted of another sister, Mom & I and it did not go well. We spent the entire afternoon (Good Friday, no less) in a more-or-less extended shouting match with the two of them. They sincerely hated having me along, because I'd picked up so much critical information. The info from the LA Times series was the only thing that phased them. They hadn't heard about Xenu yet. Over the course of the afternoon, we were each offered the chance to talk to Brother-in-law's "counsellor" (handler) in California. Mom declined, but I gleefully accepted. I was amazed at this person. I wish I could remember her name, but she had an answer for _almost_ everything I asked her. When I asked her to explain Xenu and the Marcabs to me, she got very huffy, said she had no time to deal with an "obvious Suppressive" and asked to speak to Brother-in-law again. We left shortly after. A few family meetings were organized shortly after, but very little has been accomplished. Things had been quiet on this front until last Christmas when the entire family was presented with a Scientology booklet (chock full of little quotes from Ron). In a very bad scene, all of the booklets were returned to them. For most of the time that they've been involved, the two of them have been the most least talked-about members of the family. To the point of most of the family cutting off most communication with them. They're just getting back into calling them "just to chat", now. (On a side note of paranoia, Sis just called. Scared the hell out of me.) Anyway, my point in this is that you're not alone. This group is populated with a number of people who can provide information that could help in reclaiming your son. Good luck. *********************************************************************** * Gordon R. Campbell * Tongue of toad, newt so * * The Zone VI Image Workshop * greeny, turn this * * P.O. Yeah. I'm constantly amazed by the content of Elron's 'scriptures'. It also saddens me to see otherwise educated and intelligent people falling for and trusting in this hogwash. BTW, for any Clams who are reading this: I WANT MY IN_LAWS BACK!!! ======== Newsgroups: alt.religion.scientology Subject: This gets better all the time From: Gordon Campbell Date: Wed, 05 Feb 2003 21:05:38 -0500 -------- I just got off the telephone with my sister-in-law (non-scieno) and I can't stop laughing: it appears that I've gotten under the skin of some dork in the OSA or something similar. My other sister-in-law (poor little clam) has been told that I have a web site the talks about them and their dealings with the Kriminal Kult. LOL Nothing could be further form the truth, but she hasn't seen fit to call me about it. I've been involved with ARS, off and on, since late 1994 and have talked about my $cieno-in-laws numerous times, but I have always been scrupulous to leave off any information that might identify them to anyone who really doesn't know them. Naturally, their handlers would be able to make the connection, but I'd be extremely surprised if anyone else could. So, you can imagine my absolute delight when I found the site, there actually are 11 of them, to which she must have been referring: http://home.snafu.de/tilman/mystory/gordon.txt It's the first posting that I made to ARS back in 1995 that laid out the situation. The other 10 sites either link to Tilman's archive of my post or except it. This absolutely tickles me. To think that little ol' me has come up high enough on the radar screen of somebody who can make my in-laws' progression along the bridge difficult has made my month. Dear OSA moron: BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
