I joined the Church Of The SubGenius because they preached SLACK! When I was 6 I was sent to Catholic school in the first grade. I was a prococious kid, and by then I had figured out Santa Claus did not exist. The adults used to feed me baloney about Santa Claus and I would poke holes in their stuff and they thought this was funny and I thought it was a game. I poked holes in the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny too, and everybody thought it was a great joke. And I was happy to be able to give them a run for their money, too. A natural born sceptic who could poke holes in these things, a great bit of entertainment. Then The nuns tried to teach me about God and St. Christopher and Virgin Mary and I tried to poke holes in that. I got into arguements with the nuns and sat in the corner a lot. But by now, I knew bullshit when I smelled it. But I also learned that not all adults could. By 7 I was the school heathen, and always made to sit in the back and shut up during catechism class. I never believed and any of this stuff. I still don't 39 years later. I have never wavered. No Apostate here, kiddo! I chose my own beliefs based on logic and skepticism and critical thought and have never wavered. Except to discover the need for Slack(tm) to make my life complete. By the fourth grade I was out of nunland and into a nice secular school where I didn't have to put up with silly nuns and silly tall tales, and boy did they have a lot! All the various silly saints, their tortures and miracles. Apostate? I have been a rock steady, hard shelled, flame quenched, tempered to the core rationalist and arch-skeptic from the day I could understand enough English to be one. And jolly well proud of it too! You could not find anybody in this low rent neck of the Galaxy less likely to fit the word apostate in any way, shape or form. (...) Pope Charles SubGenius Pope Of Houston Slack!
