STOP THE HATRED IN GERMANY - DON'T LET HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF

SYMBOLS OF INTOLERANCE

In November 1937, the Nazi newpaper Der Sturmer portrayed a drooling demon clutching the world in its claws. The chest of this demon bore a Star of David.

By that time, the process of paving the way for the "final solution" was well advanced. Nazi propaganda routinely denounced Jews as parasites and archcriminals. New acts of terror against the Jewish population were thus justified as patriotic actions.

A courageous few protested the persecution. But the propaganda generated by the Nazis was so effective, and the means they used to suppress opposition so ruthless, that eventually no one was left to speak up.

In today's Germany, propaganda is again used to stigmatize minority groups and religious in attempts to deprive them of their rights as citizens.

In September 1992, the German edition of Forbes published artwork depicting the Scientology cross. From out of the cross reared a drooling demon with gaping fangs - the symbol used by Der Sturmer 55 years earlier.

If Forbes' revival of Nazi propaganda techniques were an isolated instance, there would not be serious cause for concern. However, in a 1993 booklet, the Church of Scientology published numerous examples where hate-filled symbols exploited by the Nazis against the Jews were also used by German media to denigrate Scientology.

Such hatred has been encouraged and fostered by the govenment as well as the media.

After the reputation of the Jewish population in germany had been ruined by propaganda, and their religious and civil rights stripped, Hitler was able to implement the final solution.

Could history repeat itself?

The wrong thing to do is nothing.
