From: SmokeSig Newsgroups: alt.religion.scientology Subject: Re: _2001: A Space Odyssey_ forbidden to Scientologists? Date: 4 Jun 1995 05:57:25 GMT At the time of the pictures release, the senior commanding officer of the Sea Org in Los Angeles issued an order forbidding Sea Org members to see this movie. The claim was that the movie was restimulative. It may have been Captain Bill (Robertson) who issued the order. Captain Bill, one of Ron's favorite campaigners, was a complete looney and was prone to foolishness like this. Someplace around is his debrief from Spain. Bringing this little discussion (of my favorite movie of all time and my favorite director) back around to the subject of the newsgroup, the reason it was banned, specifically for people at the Advanced Org in LA (probably by Capt. Bill as Neal Hamel pointed out) is that it showed Alex being implanted, just in the same way Hubbard described implants. It would restimulate [sic] the 75millionyearago/36day/bt's& clusters/R6 implant which makes up the Phatman's Redactive Mind[tm]. The whole concept of Clockwork Orange from the movie and Burgess' book was that one cannot make something mechanical out of something inherently organic, such as human behavior. It is the major flaw in the cult tek, too. All these little mechanical concepts like the CAR Triangle and the stucture of the bank. It's like a Rube Goldberg model of the mind and spirit. I must admit I didn't believe it because I thought, well, it was just *too* silly. Oops. There *is* no "too silly" in Scientology... Here is the actual text of the Ethics Order proscribing "2001": ---------- HCO ETHICS ORDER To: All Staff 24/6/68 From: HCO Area Director No: 691 L Subject: Ethics Protection. No staff or current students are to see the film "2001 - A Space Odyssey." The film produces heavy and unneccessary restimulation. Ron Hopkins T/HCO AREA DIRECTOR ---------- [source: The Sunday Times, 18 August 1968] I'll be making a scanned version available shortly, with any luck.
