We first met in the early 1980s, played in bands in Berlin, worked in production groups, cooperated in all kind of ways, like music management etc. In the early 1990s our contact became very loose. We never lost it completely. Occasional meetings, drinking wine, talking about life, about music. In late 2011 we met again. Since we share our life and our music.


In the summer of 2012, after a first EP (It's a gift), we started to work on this release. The idea was to be as pure as possible. So what you hear here is more or less what you get when we sit and play - two voices, two guitars... and the uke! We bought new instruments and new expensive cables. Those of you who know, know how important good cables are!


A first thing that happened when we started to produce was the complete breakdown of the *new and good* Laptop with all equipment needed. So we sneeked into the archives and dug up an ancient computer .. BIG and LOUD, so we named him Jules because he reminded us on all those machines to be seen in Jules Verne movies like "Journey to the center of the earth". And yes - it became a journey to the center of our music!

We'll now start playin' at private events because our desire to play the smokey, noisey clubs, where people seldom really listen, is less than zero after all these years. For too long we played the clubs 'n pubs, which is - if you don't have a dedicated fandom - often not that rewarding. If you plan a private event - get in touch, we'll play for food and good vibes!

Meta Georgia - Cream Of Tartar (CD, Trash Tone Records)

Lord Litter ist ein alter Bekannter. Wer mein Flyer-Zine von Beginn an regelmäßig verfolgt, sollte ihn kennen. In den 80ern aktiv in der Berliner und internationalen Kassetten Szene, eine eigene Radiosendung bei kleineren Alternativ Sendern und im Internet macht er seit Jahrzehnten inzwischen. Aber Lord Litter ist auch Musiker, wie wir wissen. Als Lord Litter hat er bisher seine Musik veröffentlicht. Nun hat der Lord eine Lady, eine Partnerin. Und mit ihr macht er nun gemeinsam Musik. Eine alte Bekannte ist seine Lady, zumindest für ihn selbst, wie er schreibt in den Liner Notes zur Platte. Wieder gefunden hat er sie. Und nun sind die beiden ein Duo, oder sollte man sagen ein Paar? Jedenfalls wurde ein neuer Name gefunden: Meta Georgia.

Hilke Hesse, so heißt Litters Partnerin, schrieb die Songs. Sie singt und spielt akustische Gitarre. Lord Litter spielt auch Gitarre und gelegentlich noch anderes. Er singt auch im Hintergrund, und er hat produziert. Neue Instrumente haben sie gekauft und neue Kabel, teure gute Kabel. Die sind so wichtig, dass sie extra erwähnt werden. Vor gut einem Jahr begann die Arbeit an diesem Album. Neben allen alltäglichen Verpflichtungen und Notwendigkeiten logischerweise. Nun ist es fertig. Und das Ergebnis ist – sehr intim. Sehr sparsam, reduziert, ohne dass etwas fehlt. Wie nennt man so etwas? Kleinkunst? – Das ist ein Wort, das ich nicht mag. Als wäre diese Kunst kleiner als die einer lauten Band oder eines Orchesters. Aber natürlich ist das Musik, die nur im kleinen Rahmen funktioniert, bei der man zuhören muss, die Aufmerksamkeit erfordert.

Während die früheren Platten Lord Litters meist verschroben und irgendwie schrullig waren, ist das hier eine sehr offene und klare Sache, trotz dieser gewissen Intimität, die aus den Songs spricht. Ich glaube, Hilke Hesse hat eine ganz andere Art Songs zu schreiben als der Lord. Und je öfter ich die Platte höre, desto sympathischer wird mir dieses Songwriting. Und Hilke hat eine tolle Stimme. Beim Arrangement und bei der Produktion wird dann aber auch des Lords Handschrift deutlich. Insofern ist diese Platte eben doch auch eine Fortsetzung.

Hat man sich erstmal auf Meta Georgia eingelassen, dann macht diese Musik richtig Spaß. "Little Cat" oder "Early Bird" sind richtige kleine Pop Perlen. Wunderbar leicht und fröhlich. Und "Baby Bumble Bee" ist herrlich übermütiger Sommerpop. Und selbst die nicht so fröhlichen Songs wie etwa "Leaf" wirken doch noch auf ihre Art heiter, weise. Ja, das ist sie diese Platte, weise, abgeklärt und dabei fröhlich und manchmal nachdenklich. Diese Songs machen nicht bloß Spaß, sie machen auch Mut. ****

A real winner to me. The sincerity and human touch is what gets me to begin with. And the way that your two voices work together is wonderful. The simplicity of approach is like listening to friends on the back porch on a summer evening. Clearly recorded and honest, this will be getting airplay soon. Well worth waiting for.
