American Folk Kitchen
NEEDS: In Kitchen, each feature showcases a recipe and the person (other than the author) who prepares it. The title should therefore follow the format "Akiko's Ramen" (ie, name then food type), although you can add a more creative subtitle if you wish. We are particularly interested in foods that demonstrate an ethnic or regional affiliation but we are equally interested in how pre-packaged convenience foods are modified and used in real life. Length: 400-600 words, plus recipe. No longer than 1000 words. As a rule, shorter is better.

American Forests Magazine
NEEDS: Factual articles that are well written, well illustrated, and will inform, entertain, and perhaps inspire.
Informative news stories on controversial or current topics, as long as they are well documented and present the issue fairly.

NEEDS: Laid-back, practical, how-to guides for the traveler, tips on getting the best transportation buys for the dollar, adventuring hints, or tales of a visit to an unusual, "off the beaten path" locale. Advice on working or studying overseas, humorous anecdotes, experiences with unfamiliar cultures, or helpful travel resource informational pieces are also appreciated in any length from 500 to 4,000 words -- more or less if need be. First-person experiences are always valued, especially if they reveal some lesson, characteristic about a culture -- or about you.
