The Horse is a monthly magazine devoted to equine health and care. The focus of the publication is an educational and news magazine geared toward the professional, hands-on horse owner.

The Horse pays on publication and publishes the manuscript on the average of two months after its acceptance. A byline is given and acceptance for publication includes first rights and on-line rights unless otherwise agreed.

The Horse prefers "how-to topics," technical topics, and topical interviews. It accepts no first person experiences except from professionals. This is a technical magazine to inform horse owners.

The length of articles accepted ranges from 500 - 6000 words. Payment ranges from $50 - $650. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically or on disk.

Send photos with submissions. Slides, photos, or digitized images are acceptable. However, please send duplicates, not originals as the originals may be lost in transit. Payment for images ranges from $25 - $250. Captions and identification of photos are required with the images. Payment buys one time rights unless otherwise agreed.

Writers should submit a resume and samples of their writing before submitting a manuscript. The Horse can not be responsible for unsolicited manuscripts. Back issues of The Horse are available upon request.
