Cars and Bond-girls for Cleo, the butch Cleo, the butch straight out of the textbook, may seem to the audience to be the textbook lesbian. Although the role does seem to suit Queen Latifah down to the ground, it is, unfortunately, clichéed. Cleo adorns herself with all the accessories reserved for real men, er, lesbians: liquor bottles, guns, cars, even a cat, à la James Bond, called Ursuala. Of all the interpersonal relationships in the film, the lesbian one comes off worst, in terms of screen time alone.
